Property Hunter raised RM10,000 for NGO Habitata Human

The 2014 Property Hunter Expo (PH Expo) saw over 15,000 visitors during the three-day event. A total of 200 units were sold which collectively were worth over RM150 million.

Organizer Maxx Media (S) Sdn Bhd made an earlier pledge to donate RM50 for every unit sold to Habitat for Humanity. Through the sales, they managed to raise RM10,000 for the non-governmental organization that helps eliminate poverty housing by building affordable houses for the less fortunate. Apart from this, public donation coupled with donation made by speakers at the expo amounts to RM4605.55. Speakers who donated the money from their book sales are Ahyat Ishak, Chris Tan, Miichael Yeoh, Faizul Ridzuan and Richard Oon.

Its President for Habitat for Humanity Kota Kinabalu mentioned in an interview that he encourages everyone to impact lives and give hope by being a volunteer to build decent homes for the needy. The NGO is in constant need of support from members of the public not just in funds, but also in manpower to build houses.
HFH identifies families in need of financial support and assist them in building new homes or refurbish existing ones. According to its National President Mr Allen Tong, the average funds required for the construction of a house is RM30,000. Qualified beneficiaries will be granted the fund on a loan basis with no interest, and the NGO is also involved in the construction of house to ensure the fund is appropriated.

“We can volunteer in many ways to help build homes, build hopes & build lives. We can help many who are in need of decent housing and it begins with ensuring that they have a proper roof over their heads.” Said Mr Allen Tong.

“Property Hunter is excited to embark on this project in partnership with Habitat For Humanity Kota Kinabalu branch. This will be our key CSR project for the year. We will continue the donation drive in our upcoming expos in Sandakan & Tawau.” Said Property Hunter’s Director Mr Michael Hiew. He added “it has always been our dream to assist the poor by putting a roof over their family, and we are committed to see this project come to realisation.”

Apart from the donation drive, customers who made purchases during the PH Expo were entitled to join the Buy and Win contest. Lucky homebuyer Brenda Esther Sator walked away with a 9D7N round trip for two to Shanghai sponsored by Airworld Travel and Tours.

Visitors who registered at the Expo also had an opportunity to enter the Visit and Win contest. Liaw Jun Yung won himself a brand new iPad mini sponsored by Suria Sabah.

Today, as we all were checking out this place, they are offering something unique – interesting colourful burger buns. Choose between Rose Red (+ RM1), Green Day (+ RM1), and Charcoal (+ RM2). Or else, you still can choose the normal buns for your burger at no additional cost.

Embrace failure

Embrace failure. Life doesn't come with an instruction manual. Who have not failed before? I do. Everybody does.

Think about what I have encountered back in the days when I was in Kuala Lumpur pursuing my studies in Quantity Surveying, it is not what I have planned to do, but I just go with the flow saying that ‘I can do it’. Definitely, I still can manage the first and second year, but when it comes to the third year, I am doomed. Frankly speaking, I never learn Additional Mathematics in my secondary, but I learnt when I was taking my Diploma. Good news, I passed my finals even though it’s difficult for me to learn Add Math in Diploma level.

Somehow, things started to change. I started to fail a lot of my subjects, including the one that I was the Top 3 in the class in the Building Services subject. Oh Lord, that is unbelievable unacceptable. And I do remember, I was teaching my classmate on the same subject and for all the subjects that I am good in but guess what, I failed and they passed. When I received a phone call from them asking me “What do you get for your finals?” and I answered sadly, “I have failed Building Services”. And, this is what I get in return, “You didn’t study enough”. Well, this I will not forget.

How’s life in Kuala Lumpur? You got to be tough, strong, independent, and all those positive and encouraging words you can think of right now. Back in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah is like a new life for me but I handle it positively. My parents gave me a choice of 3, either I should continue my studies to be a Singer, Musician, or study Tourism. Well, you guessed it right. I chose tourism and the reason is I love Sabah and I want the best for Sabah. If I have chosen Singing or Musical, I will not be staying in Sabah and for me, singing and playing musical instruments can be learnt slowly, which I did.

Now, look what failure did to me. It doesn’t mean that I am successful now. I will still continue to learn new things, listen to the people around me and continue take new experiences in life! I like true stories and real experiences. So, don’t stop when you fail. Stand up tall, look forward, and explore yourself again. Take up the challenge!
